Hook-Holland Papers [manuscript], 1790-1890.

Mostly business papers of John and Robert Hook and of William Holland, Franklin County, Virginia, including correspondence and receipts. The collection includes the first four pages of a letter from an unidentified Confederate soldier stationed at Battery Washington, St. Andrews Parish, near Charleston, S.C. 1864 January 1, mentioning a lengthy illness and his hatred of General Wise who kept him hospitalized in Virginia. The collection also includes a letter from Edmund Randolph to John Hook, 1807 February 23, regarding a bill of divorce for a woman [who has left her husband and is living with Hook?] and a draft of a complaint 1788 [in the hand of a clerk for Patrick Henry with docketing in Henry's hand?].
